Asaltante is a common-gender noun — el asaltante (male) and la asaltante (female) use the same form, changing only the article. It refers to someone committing a robbery or physical assault (asalto). In Latin America it is frequently used for armed robbers (asaltante a mano armada); in Spain atracador is more common for robbery.
