Usage Note
Apóstol refers primarily to one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, but by extension it describes any fervent advocate or propagator of a cause (un apóstol de la paz — an apostle of peace). The compound Santiago Apóstol (Saint James the Apostle) is the patron saint of Spain. The feminine apóstola is rare and mostly literary.
