Usage Note

Apartar means to move something out of the way or to separate things, and the reflexive apartarse means to step aside or distance oneself. The preposition de commonly follows: apartarse de los problemas (to distance oneself from problems). Do not confuse with aparte (aside, separate), which is the adverb/adjective derived from the same root. In retail Spanish, apartar also means to put something on hold or reserve it.
