Usage Note

Alérgico agrees in gender and number with the noun it modifies (alérgica, alérgicos). It is used with the preposition a: soy alérgico al polen ('I am allergic to pollen'). Figuratively it can mean strong aversion: es alérgico al trabajo ('he's allergic to work'). The related noun is alergia and the specialist is an alergólogo.
