Usage Note

Agitar covers both physical shaking (agitar una botella, 'to shake a bottle') and figurative stirring up of emotions or crowds (agitar a las masas, 'to stir up the masses'). The reflexive agitarse means 'to become agitated' or 'to churn' (of the sea). Note the initial g is soft before i, not guttural.
