agencia
agency
noun ah-HEN-syah Less Common
Origin: From Latin 'agentia', from 'agere' (to act, to do).
Usage Note
Agencia covers travel agencies (agencia de viajes), news agencies (agencia de noticias), and advertising agencies (agencia de publicidad). In Spain, agencia tributaria is the tax authority. It does not carry the abstract philosophical sense of 'human agency' that English uses — use capacidad de acción for that.
Examples
"Reservé el vuelo por una agencia de viajes."
Natural Translation
I booked the flight through a travel agency.
