Usage Note

Adherir means to physically stick or bond, but the reflexive form adherirse a is far more common in practice, meaning to join or subscribe to an agreement, cause, or organization (adherirse a un tratado = to accede to a treaty). It is a stem-changing verb of the sentir group (-i- in present stem-changed forms). Do not confuse with adherencia (adhesion/grip) the noun.
