Usage Note

Acusación refers to both the act of accusing and the formal legal charge (presentar una acusación). In legal Spanish, la acusación can also refer to the prosecution as a body, parallel to 'the Crown' or 'the State' in English-speaking systems. The verb acusar and the agent noun acusado/acusada ('the accused, defendant') are the most common related forms.
