Usage Note
Zafra primarily refers to the sugar-cane harvest season, especially in Cuba, the Caribbean, and other Latin American countries where sugar production is central. In some regions it can mean the harvest of olives or other crops. The word is largely unknown in non-agricultural peninsular Spanish. It is also a name given to a tin vessel used for oil.
