Usage Note
Votar is a regular -ar verb. It takes the preposition por for the thing or person voted for (votar por un candidato) and en contra de to vote against. Do not confuse it with botar, which in Latin America means 'to throw away' or 'to bounce' — they are homophones in most dialects.
Examples
"Todos los ciudadanos votaron ayer."
Natural Translation
All citizens voted yesterday.
