viñedo
vineyard
noun bee-NYEH-doh Rare
Origin: From Latin vinetus, from vinum (wine).
Usage Note
Viñedo refers specifically to a planted vineyard — a cultivated field of grapevines (vides) grown for wine production. It differs from viña, which can mean any grapevine or a small vineyard; viñedo implies a larger, more organized wine-producing estate. Spain is one of the world's largest wine producers, and viñedos cover much of La Rioja, Ribera del Duero, and Catalonia.
Examples
"El viñedo produce uvas de alta calidad."
Natural Translation
The vineyard produces high-quality grapes.
