Usage Note
Violencia covers physical violence, but also institutional or structural forms: violencia de género ('gender-based violence') is a fixed phrase in Spanish public discourse. The adjective is violento/violenta. Violencia doméstica and violencia intrafamiliar (the latter more common in Latin America) both refer to domestic violence.
