Origin: From Italian violino, diminutive of viola.

Usage Note

Violín bears a written accent on the final syllable (violín) because it ends in -n but stress falls on the last syllable, violating the default penultimate rule. The plural violines drops the accent since the stress position is now regular. A violin player is a violinista (invariable ending for both genders).
