vereda

path, trail

noun beh-REH-dah Rare

Also means

sidewalk (Latin America)

Usage Note

Vereda means a narrow footpath or trail in Spain and much of Latin America, but in countries such as Argentina, Uruguay, and Peru it is the everyday word for a sidewalk (what Spain calls acera). Be aware of this regional split — telling someone to walk by the vereda means very different things depending on country.

Examples

"Siguió la vereda entre los árboles."

Natural Translation

She followed the path through the trees.
