Vehículo is the formal or official term; in everyday speech coche (Spain) or carro (Latin America) is far more natural for a car. Vehículo is preferred in legal texts, news, and when encompassing all vehicle types (trucks, motorcycles, etc.). The phrase vehículo de motor ('motor vehicle') appears frequently in traffic regulations.
