Usage Note

Vegetación is an uncountable noun in its primary sense (the general plant cover of an area); use las plantas or las especies vegetales when referring to individual plants. The adjective vegetal ('plant, vegetable') comes from the same root. Vegetación exuberante ('lush vegetation') is a very common colocation.
