Usage Note

Trece is invariable as a cardinal. In Spain, Tuesday the 13th (martes trece) — not Friday the 13th — is considered the unlucky date, referenced in the proverb en martes, ni te cases ni te embarques ('on Tuesday, neither marry nor set sail'). Learners often mishear trece and tres (three) in rapid speech; note the final -ce syllable that distinguishes them.
