tras
after; behind; following
preposition trahs Common
Origin: From Latin trans 'across, beyond'.
Usage Note
Tras is primarily literary or formal; everyday speech prefers después de for time ('after') and detrás de for physical position ('behind'). It appears frequently in journalism: tras la reunión 'after the meeting'. The prefix tras- (or trans-) generates numerous verbs: traspasar 'to pass through', trasnochar 'to stay up all night'. In compound tenses with motion verbs, it can imply pursuit: ir tras alguien 'to go after someone'.
Examples
"Salió corriendo tras el autobús."
