Usage Note

Tolerante describes a person who accepts differences in beliefs, customs, or behavior without strong objection. It is invariable in gender (el juez tolerante, la sociedad tolerante). The noun form is tolerancia. In religious or political contexts, tolerante carries a positive, civic connotation; permisivo ('permissive') is more negative.
