tambor

drum

noun tahm-BOHR Rare

Origin: From Arabic ṭanbūr (a stringed/drum instrument), later applied to drum specifically.

Usage Note

Tambor refers to a cylindrical drum and, by extension, any drum-shaped container (a paint drum, a tumble dryer drum). The player is el tamborilero. The final -r is pronounced; stress falls on the last syllable as it ends in a consonant other than n/s.

Examples

"El ritmo del tambor animó a toda la multitud."

Natural Translation

The rhythm of the drum excited the whole crowd.
