talón
heel
noun tah-LOHN Rare
Origin: From Latin talo (ankle bone), from talus (ankle, heel).
Also means
cheque stub
Usage Note
Talón has two main uses: the anatomical heel of the foot, and the counterfoil or stub of a cheque (talón bancario). The famous idiom el talón de Aquiles ('Achilles' heel') is widely used in Spanish to mean a person's critical weakness, exactly as in English. Note the written accent on -ón, which is lost in the plural talones — a stress-shift worth knowing.
Examples
"Me duele el talón después de correr."
Natural Translation
My heel hurts after running.
