sábado
Saturday
noun SAH-bah-doh Less Common
Origin: From Hebrew shabbat (day of rest), entering Spanish via Late Latin sabbatum.
Usage Note
Sábado carries the accent on the first syllable, making it a proparoxytone (esdrújula). Days of the week are not capitalised in Spanish. Unlike English, Spanish uses the definite article to express habitual occurrence: los sábados means 'on Saturdays' (every Saturday).
Examples
"El sábado vamos al mercado."
Natural Translation
On Saturday we're going to the market.
