Usage Note

Sonido is the noun; the verb is sonar ('to sound, to ring'). In audio/music contexts sonido covers both a single sound and the overall sound quality. Don't confuse it with ruido ('noise', implying unwanted sound) — sonido is neutral or positive. Ingeniero de sonido is a sound engineer.
