Usage Note
Solista is common gender (el/la solista) — the same form is used for males and females, with the article doing the work. It applies to both vocal and instrumental performers who perform alone or take a featured solo part within an ensemble. The adjective solista (actuación solista, 'solo performance') uses the same word.
