Usage Note
Shock is used in Spanish as a direct anglicism in both medical contexts (entrar en shock, to go into shock) and general ones (shock emocional). The RAE recommends choque as the Spanish equivalent for the medical sense, but shock dominates in press and everyday speech, where it is written in italics as a foreign term. The plural is shocks.
