Reivindicar means to assert a right, demand recognition, or reclaim something. It is frequent in political and labour contexts: reivindicar derechos laborales ('to demand labour rights'). When an armed group claims responsibility for an attack, it reivindica el atentado. Do not confuse with reclamar, which is more general ('to complain, to claim'). Related noun: reivindicación.
