Usage Note
Refresco is the standard term for a soft drink or cold beverage in most of Latin America and Spain. In Mexico and parts of Central America, refresco is the dominant term; in the Southern Cone, gaseosa is more common for carbonated soft drinks. The word also means a general cold refreshment: tomar un refresco ('to have a cold drink'). The verb refrescar means 'to cool down' or 'to refresh'.
