rapero
rapper
noun rrah-PEH-roh Rare
Origin: From English rapper, from rap (music genre).
Usage Note
Rapero is the standard Spanish term for a rap musician; the feminine is rapera. In some Latin American countries raper (unadapted loanword) is also used but rapero/a is more integrated into the language. Do not confuse with ratero (petty thief), which sounds different but could trip up learners.
Examples
"El rapero lanzó un nuevo álbum esta semana."
Natural Translation
The rapper released a new album this week.
