Prostituta is the standard feminine noun; the masculine prostituto exists but is far less frequent. The activity is prostitución; the broader term trabajadora sexual (sex worker) is preferred in rights-based discourse. In Spain prostitution is neither fully legal nor fully illegal (an ambiguous legal status), which keeps the vocabulary in frequent journalistic and political use.
