prostituta

prostitute

noun prohs-tee-TOO-tah Less Common

Usage Note

Prostituta is the standard feminine noun; the masculine prostituto exists but is far less frequent. The activity is prostitución; the broader term trabajadora sexual (sex worker) is preferred in rights-based discourse. In Spain prostitution is neither fully legal nor fully illegal (an ambiguous legal status), which keeps the vocabulary in frequent journalistic and political use.

Examples

"La organización defiende los derechos de las prostitutas."

Natural Translation

The organisation defends the rights of prostitutes.
