Usage Note
Presupuesto can mean either a government or business budget (el presupuesto del estado) or a quote/estimate given by a tradesperson (pedir un presupuesto — 'to ask for a quote'). The second sense is very common in everyday Spanish. It derives from the past participle of presuponer ('to presuppose, to budget for').
