Usage Note
Poliandria refers to the practice in which one woman has multiple husbands simultaneously, the counterpart of poliginia (one man, multiple wives). It is rare in human societies but occurs in some Himalayan and Tibetan cultures. In zoology it describes females that mate with multiple males.
