Usage Note
Permitido is the past participle of permitir used as an adjective. It follows the noun or stands predicatively: está permitido fumar aquí (smoking is allowed here). Its opposite is prohibido. In signs, no permitido and prohibido are used interchangeably, though prohibido is more forceful.
