Usage Note
Peatón is the standard word for a person on foot in traffic or legal contexts — zona peatonal (pedestrian zone) is the adjective form. The written accent disappears in the plural peatones (peh-ah-TOH-nehs), since the stress falls on the penultimate syllable, a regular pattern for words ending in -ón.
Examples
"El peatón cruzó la calle en el semáforo."
Natural Translation
The pedestrian crossed the street at the traffic light.
