Also means
to bring to a standstill
Usage Note
Paralizar can describe literal paralysis of a limb or figurative paralysis of an economy, city, or negotiations (la huelga paralizó el transporte, the strike brought transport to a standstill). The reflexive paralizarse means 'to grind to a halt' or 'to freeze up'. The spelling-change rule applies: -zar → -cé in the first-person preterite (paralicé).
Examples

Natural Translation
The strike paralysed public transport for two days.
