Usage Note

Palmera is the tree; palma is the palm leaf or the palm of the hand. A palmeral is a grove of palm trees. The Canary Island date palm (Phoenix canariensis) is called palmera canaria and is an iconic symbol of the islands. Do not confuse palmera (tree) with palma (leaf or hand).
