Ocioso has two distinct uses: describing a person who is idle or doing nothing (una vida ociosa, an idle life) and describing a thing as pointless or futile (una pregunta ociosa, a pointless question). The noun el ocio (leisure, free time) is common and positive in modern use, while ocioso applied to a person often carries a mild negative connotation of laziness.
