Usage Note
Nieto (masculine) and nieta (feminine) mean 'grandson' and 'granddaughter'. The plural nietos can refer to a mixed group of grandchildren. The colloquial phrase de puta madre aside, Spanish uses nieto generically where English might say 'grandchild'. There is no single gender-neutral singular form.
