Nervio has a literal anatomical sense (nerve fibre) and a figurative one in the plural — nervios means 'nerves' as in anxiety: estar de los nervios ('to be a bundle of nerves'). The colloquial phrase ¡qué nervios! expresses anxious agitation. A single nervio can also mean the tendon or sinew in a cut of meat.
