mediodía

noon, midday

noun meh-dyoh-DEE-ah Less Common

Usage Note

Mediodía is masculine despite ending in -a: el mediodía. It is a compound of medio + día, and the masculine gender comes from día. The phrase a mediodía means 'at noon'. In Spain it also loosely refers to the long midday break period (roughly 14:00–16:00), not just the clock hour.

Examples

"Comemos juntos al mediodía."

Natural Translation

We eat together at noon.
