Usage Note

Mayo is the fifth month of the year. In Spanish, months are written in lowercase unless they begin a sentence. Mayo is also associated with the phrase el primero de mayo (International Workers' Day / May Day). In Spain the month shares its name with the plant el mayo (maypole) used in traditional festivals.
