Marido is the everyday word for 'husband' in most of the Spanish-speaking world, used interchangeably with esposo in informal speech. Esposo is slightly more formal or affectionate, while marido is neutral and colloquial. The feminine counterpart is mujer ('wife') rather than the expected marida, which does not exist in standard Spanish.
