Localizar means to locate or track down a person or object (lograron localizar al sospechoso) and also to reach someone by phone or message (no pude localizarte). In medical Spanish localizar el dolor means to pinpoint where the pain is. It is slightly more formal than encontrar, which is the everyday word for finding something.
