Usage Note

Lastimar means to cause physical or emotional hurt — me lastimé la rodilla (I hurt my knee), sus palabras me lastimaron (his words hurt me). The reflexive lastimarse is very common for hurting oneself accidentally. It overlaps with herir (to wound/hurt) but is softer in register and more common in everyday Latin American speech.
