intratable

intractable

adjective een-trah-TAH-bleh Rare

Origin: From Latin intractabilis, from in- + tractare (to handle, manage).

Also means

impossible to deal with

Usage Note

Intratable describes a person who is impossible to reason with or get along with, or a problem that resists all attempts at resolution. Applied to people it is a strong criticism: es un hombre intratable suggests someone chronically difficult, not just having a bad day. It is stronger and more permanent in feel than difícil (difficult). Used with ser.

Examples

"El jefe estaba intratable esa mañana."

Natural Translation

The boss was impossible to deal with that morning.
