Hundimiento denotes the physical sinking of a ship or the collapse of a structure, and by extension an economic or moral collapse (el hundimiento de la empresa 'the collapse of the company'). It derives from hundir ('to sink/to collapse'). Do not confuse with ahogamiento ('drowning of a person').
