Usage Note
Herido is the past participle of herir (to wound) used as an adjective or noun. Los heridos (the injured/wounded) is common in news reports. When used predicatively with estar (está herido) it describes a current state; as a noun un herido grave means a seriously injured person. The initial 'h' is silent.
