Usage Note

Gemelo means an identical twin (as opposed to mellizo, a fraternal twin). In the plural, gemelos also means binoculars or, in formal dress, cufflinks. As an adjective it describes things that are identical: torres gemelas ('twin towers'). The feminine is gemela.
