Gafas is used predominantly in Spain; Latin American speakers prefer lentes or anteojos for spectacles. The word is always plural in Spanish when referring to a pair. Sunglasses are gafas de sol. The singular gafa (rare) can refer to a single lens or a hook-shaped device, but a learner will almost never need it.
