ftalocianina

phthalocyanine

noun ftah-loh-syah-NEE-nah Rare

Origin: from naphtha (oil) + cyanine (blue)

Usage Note

Ftalocianina is an intensely colored synthetic pigment used in inks, paints, and plastics — azul de ftalocianina (phthalo blue) and verde de ftalocianina (phthalo green) are standard artist's pigment names. The initial ft- cluster is unusual in Spanish and may cause pronunciation difficulty; both consonants are fully pronounced.

Examples

"El pigmento de ftalocianina es muy intenso."

Natural Translation

The phthalocyanine pigment is very intense.
