Also means
exemption
Usage Note
Franquicia has two main senses: a commercial franchise (abrir una franquicia — to open a franchise) and an insurance or customs exemption (franquicia aduanera — customs allowance). In business journalism the commercial sense now dominates. The verb franquiciar (to franchise) exists but is less common than the phrase operar en franquicia.
Examples
"Decidieron abrir una franquicia de comida rápida."
Natural Translation
They decided to open a fast-food franchise.
